Suzy is a founding member and managing partner of the law firm of M. Susan Rice, P.C., which represents community associations of all types, both single family and multi-family developments, as well as developers of real property. Suzy and her firm are experienced in handling all aspects of real estate transactions, litigation and property owner association representation. Suzy provides counsel and advice to the firm’s clients including general community association issues, warranty, contract, fair housing and litigation matters. In addition to representing community associations in traditional litigation issues, she appears in bankruptcy court on a regular basis to represent her client’s interest in bankruptcies filed by homeowners.
Suzy has been an attorney for over 30 years and she has extensive litigation and appellate experience representing community associations and developers. She has litigated a large number of association deed restriction enforcement cases including architectural, nuisance, corporate matters, construction, design defect, contract as well as defamation. She has helped to craft Texas law applicable to community associations. She was one of the authors of H.B. 2152, which became Chapter 204 of Title 11 of the Texas Property Code. She has also authored master deed restrictions for large residential and commercial developers and builders.
As a result of her litigation expertise, Suzy brings a solid understanding and practical approach in counseling associations on complex day to day issues. Her practice emphasizes the preventative aspects of the operations of community associations. She believes that a proactive approach to legal issues within community associations is crucial to their success. She enjoys working closely with boards to develop goals and implement policies which will ensure the financial stability of their communities.
Suzy graduated in the top ten percent of her class from South Texas College of Law in 1985. She is an alumna of Phi Sigma Alpha, Phi Gamma Mu and Phi Alpha Theta National honor societies. She has received awards in regional, national and international mock trial and moot court activities. She also holds an undergraduate degree with honors and a Master of Arts from Sam Houston State University.
